Happy Day!!!
Today I am excited to share with you this super cute and easy faux stone lantern! You will be so surprised to find out that I created this fabulous lantern using a piece of foam board, spray paint, and a stencil! Wait, what?! That is probably what you are thinking, right? I had a hard time envisioning it myself when my husband told me about the idea. Yes, I have to give credit where credit is due, the hubs came up with this! Let me just take you back a few days before this lantern was created. When I got this amazing stencil design from Royal Design Studio, I had an idea of what I was going to use it for and it ended up being a total FAIL :(. Freaking out and feeling very frustrated I was ready to throw in the towel for the whole project. That is when my hubby came to the rescue and gave me this idea. Although he was the one behind the whole concept, I do have to give myself some credit as I took his concept and executed it well, if I must say so myself!
If you saw this post before, you may notice that things look a little different. After posting it and looking at this lantern more. I realized it needed a little TLC. So I simply smoothed out the edges some more and added a few more finishing nails to have the middle more flush together. Now I love it even more than I did before!
Faux Stone Lantern
What you will need:
- black foam board (I got mine at the dollar store)
- African Plumes Furniture Stencil from Royal Design Studio Stencils
- wood burning hotknife
Step 1: Trace your Royal Design Studio Stencil with a pencil on to the black foam board. Then trace out a rectangle around the design the desired size that you want. I just used a notepad that was the correct size and traced that around.
Step 2: Once you have all four of your stencils traced out, then grab your nifty little wood burning gadget and cut out the design.
Step 3: Spray the foam board that you just cut out with stone textured spray paint in your desired color. I used 
Step 4: Once the paint is dry, use your finishing nails to secure them all together. Two nails on each side, on the top and the bottom. Once you have them all in, then trace the bottom on your black foam board to make the base. Then use your fancy little wood burning tool to cut it out. Paint that also with spray paint and let dry. Then use 4 more finishing nails on each corner to secure it.
That is it! Stick your flameless candle inside and you have yourself a lovely faux stone lantern!
