Although it is only early March, it’s time to jump into Spring with this Ombre Succulent Planter! And what a crazy winter it has been around here. While most of the country has been getting hit hard with snow storms, it has been an extremely mild winter around here, some days making it feel like spring! Pretty funny though, as I sit here writing this post it is winter wonderland outside as we have finally had a big snow storm this morning. Irony strikes again!
With the past few months feeling like spring around here, I decided to make this fun succulent planter to bring the brightness of spring into my home! Using just a glass jar and some chalk paint, I created a simple yet colorful ombre effect to give the succulent a fun and unique home!
Ombre Painted Succulent Planter
What you will need:
- chalk paint in three different colors. (I used Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in colors serene, everlasting and legacy)
- glass jar or mason jar
- paint brush
- creme wax (optional)
- succulent
It all started with something that most people might have in their refrigerator, a jar of queso!
Before painting the jar, take off all the stickers and clean off any leftover residue. Then paint the outside of the jar with two coats of the Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in color serene.
Once that was dry, mix in some of the everlasting (white) color to the serene (light blue) to make it a light, light blue. Then paint the top with that light color. Continue to mix the paint colors, and continue painting all the way down to the bottom, with the lightest color in top to the darkest down at the bottom. You will want to use a small bristle brush and just lightly blend them until you have your desired look.
You can then wax it if you want, or just leave it as is. I decided to wax mine, to bring out the colors and brighten it up some more. To wax, just brush it on with a wax brush and wipe and buff with a lint free cloth or cheesecloth. Once you have your desired sheen then just add in your succulents, and just like that you have a cute vase to hold your succulents!
As you can see there are two different succulents in the jar. My first one I don’t like the way it looks in the jar from a side view, so I opted to get another one that I thought would look better. This just showcases how easy it is to change and give your creation a vastly different look very quickly. But now that I am liking them both, I may just have to make another Jar so that they both have a home. Happy Planting!

Your ombre is PERFECT! And it just looks so delectable when paired with the green suculent. I’ll have to try this one (but add a fake succulent cause I usually end up killing all my plants… haha)!
