Good Morning Y’all and welcome to this months Monthly DIY Challenge! There’s no better way to start off the New Year than to get things organized around your home! So with that said, this months challenge is all about getting organized using baskets and bins!
I began by procuring this revolving storage tray from Harbor Freight Tools. Typically it is used as a rotating workbench to organize tools, but I have turned it into a pretty painted organizer! As I really needed some more storage space for my craft supplies, this organizer has worked out perfect!
Painted Rotating Organizer
I originally got this to use for something at my sons upcoming birthday party (which I am still doing, you will just have to wait and see :)) but really the possibilities are endless with this so I decided to use it for this months challenge. Then I can modify, paint, and re decorate after I am done using it for my sons birthday to fit whatever need.
Here it is before just boring and black before giving it some life!
As you can see it comes with four trays. I decided to only use the three because I have something in mind for the one of the trays. Which of course I will be sharing will all of you hopefully soon 🙂
I wanted to give these lovely trays some life, and what easier way to do so with some chalk paint. Using some of the Annie Sloan tips and tricks that I learned from an Annie Sloan painting class, I used two paint colors and some
First I started off by painting all of them with two coats of Annie Sloan paint in color cocoa, then one coat in the color duck egg blue. Once it was completely dry I took a sanding block and lightly sanded the desired areas until the base color started to show.
I sealed it with some Annie Sloan soft wax, then applied some gold gilders paste with my finger to highlight certain areas. If you are not familiar with gilders paste, it is a wax-based medium that can be applied to metal, wood, polymer clay, ceramics, resin, wax and gourds. I found out about it at the Annie Sloan class that I took and just fell in love with this stuff. It comes in so many fun colors and is so easy to use. Definitely something to check out and incorporate it in your next craft or project! You can see in this picture some of the gold highlights from the gilders paste.
To make it all complete I picked up a super cute knob from Hobby Lobby and as simple as 1, 2, 3, my painted rotating organizer was complete!
With some much needed space for my abundance of craft supplies that continues to grow and grow, this is the perfect solution to keep some of it more organized. You could seriously use it for just about anything, the possibilities are truly endless. To demonstrate that point, I swapped out my crafts with jewelry and just like that, I have a jewelry organizer with the personality to match the pieces it holds.
Love the new look of this craft organizer! The color combination gives it a rustic old look, and the added knob on top gives it the perfect added touch!
Hope you are all enjoying our challenges every month as much as we are! Also don’t forget to follow along with out Monthly DIY Challenge board on Pinterest!
Now let’s see some other organizing solutions from my talented bloggy friends!

Hello…this is awesome! Wondering if it is plastic or metal? I want to paint my front door and I’m wondering if I can use chalk paint? It’s a typical builders door, metal with some sort of plasticy trim around the window.
Your house is in order = your mind is in order! I definitely needed to read this post. I got some helpful tips on items I need and how to better keep my house organized.
Great post!
