Good morning!!!! If you read my Tour through Blogland post, you saw a sneak peak of what was in store for today! So excited to be a part of this Great Crate Challenge with my VERY talented bloggy friends! We decided to all create something using the same wood crate from Michaels.
With endless possibilities, I decided to make a wine rack out of my wood crate. I am so happy with how it turned out and so thrilled to finally be sharing it with everyone!
The possibilities are truly endless with these wood crates, I had so many ideas going through my head when we decided to do this challenge, really making it hard to decide what I wanted to create. I decided on this wine rack, as it is perfect for smaller spaces. Which is what we need with our small kitchen. You can easily place it on the counter, shelf, or mount it on the wall making it so versatile.
I first started off by staining the crate with minwax wood stain in classic grey.
For the middle section, I used some wood that we had laying around in the garage, which were about 1″thick. Measured the inside of the crate and then cut the boards to fit inside, making an X-shape. After those were cut, then I went ahead and stained them using the same wood stain.
Once everything was dry then the assembly began. Using a few finishing nails to secure the middle section together, wood glue and some wood filler everything came together. The wood filler was used to fill little gaps in-between the middle section and the crate.
You will need to let the wood filler dry and then lightly sand the are to make it smooth. Once everything was complete I gave the whole thing one more coat of stain, then it was time to relax and enjoy a glass on wine!
For another idea using the same wood crates from Michaels, check out my Crate Coffee Table.
Now lets see what all my talented bloggy friends have done with their wood crates! I have been dying to see just as much as you guys! Hope you enjoyed out Great Crate Challenge as much as we did!
